I absolutely adore these earrings. On a shopping trip for materials, I saw the most gorgeous seashell inspired 24 karat vermeil beads and I just had to have them. These chandeliers are a sort of tribute to ocean life. I adore seashells, and these earrings pay tribute to the clam shell, so it seemed natural to use gemstones that reflect the color of the Pacific ocean. These earrings feature as the centerpiece, a 24 karat gold vermeil seashell bead. Vermeil is basically silver that is plated with a thick layer of 24 karat gold. This gives the look of 14 karat gold at a fraction of the price.
Three different kinds of 14 karat gold filled chain are used in the design to add visual texture. The earrings are finished off with small peruvian opal teardrop stones which range in color from deep ocean blue to shallow aqua. The biggest teardrop stone at the bottom is also a Peruvian Opal, with the most gorgeous blue color that intially I refused to believe that they are genuine. However with all opals, they glow a warm golden color once held up to the light. These beauties will fall 3.5" in length and measure 1.25" across. A gorgeous treat...
